Shane Dewees

I’m a PhD student in Carla D’Antonio’s lab, but work closely with the Anderegg lab as well. I aim to use plant physiology as a lens to understand the mechanistic underpinnings of the ecological phenomena we observe in our research. My research focuses broadly on drivers of vegetation fluxes in southern California, chaparral restoration ecology, and oak woodland fire ecology. I also aim for all my research to have an applied aspect and work closely with researchers and managers from the US Forest Service to help inform their decisions.

Outside of work I like to enjoy all the natural beauty Santa Barbara has to offer. You can find me surfing, biking, hiking, and walking my dog at the beach.
